Let's face it, student housing is f#*ked.

The Greens brought in rent caps and minimum standards for rental properties (yay!). But unlike most rental properties, student housing in Canberra is bound by occupancy agreements that have very limited protections for tenants, which means that students are getting a raw deal.

Many students are living in freezing dorms, or waiting months to have their water fixed because there are no minimum standards for energy efficiency and no timeframes for addressing maintenance issues.

There are no rules about how much your landlord can jack up the rent, and if you get unfairly evicted the onus is on you to prove why you shouldn’t have been.

The Greens think students deserve better, which is why we are holding a panel discussion to help spark the conversation that can lead to sorely-needed changes. Hear voices from UC, ANU, and the ACT Legislative Assembly and get involved with the campaign to unf#*k student housing.
