The online group will run alongside the existing in-person book club with sessions scheduled separately.
This launch event will be a relaxed introductory session where we’ll:
Meet fellow book club members from across Victoria
Talk through upcoming books and themes in the reading schedule
Share ideas for future reads and discussion formats
Answer questions about how the online sessions will work
Chat about activism, politics, organising and political reading more broadly
Unlike the regular book club meetings, there’s no required reading for this launch session. Whether you’re a long-time attendee or completely new, this is a great chance to drop in, say hello, and help shape our online beginnings.
A reminder that this is an informal and welcoming space for people interested in progressive politics, climate justice, social movements and big ideas. We will be exploring books that not only challenge us, but inspire and help us act for a better future.
What's the Activist Book Club?
The Activist Book Club is for Greens Party members and volunteers to learn more about activism, organising, and how to make political change.
What books will we be reading?
Books are decided by attendees of previous/recent meetings. Recommended books are engaging, not too dense or long, and connected to progressive politics and organising.
Previous books include: Don't Talk About Politics by Sarah Stein Lubrano, Black Lives, White Law: Locked Up and Locked Out in Australia by Russell Marks, Wilding: The Return of Nature to a British Farm by Isabella Tree
NB: None of these books are an endorsement of our views.
