Whilst the ACT currently has strong laws protecting renters from dodgy landlords (thanks in large part to ongoing efforts by the Greens 😉), the onus for enforcing those laws still falls on the renter. This process can be stressful, difficult, and a drain of precious time and money. Furthermore, the laws are limited in their ability to combat systemic misbehaviour or wrongs that occur outside the strict context of a lease.
The Greens are supporting a petition to instate a Rental Ombudsman in the ACT to advocate for the needs of renters. To that end, we will be collecting signatures outside the EPIC Farmers' Market on Saturday 20 June from 8 to 10Â am, and we would love if you could come along to help us out. No experience is needed, but we do appreciate if you can do some quick background research beforehand. We hope to see you there!
