It is less than 18 months since Donald Trump took up his second term, and we've seen horrific scenes out of the US as he pushes the country further and further towards authoritarian rule. Globally, Trump has repeatedly broken international law, and catapulted the world into escalating conflicts, including his latest war with Iran. And from AUKUS to Iran, the Australian Government continues to cozy up to Donald Trump, with little transparency or accountability to the Australian people.
Join Senator Barbara Pocock, in conversation with Dr. Emma Shortis and special US guest Margaret Hallock, as we discuss the implications of these shifts in the political landscape for communities in the US, Australia, and globally. How do we find hope and build a resistance movement at this point in time?
Dr Emma Shortis is Director of the Australia Institute’s International & Security Affairs Program. Emma is historian and writer, focused on the history and politics of the US and its role in the world. She uses her expertise in history to interpret and explain what is happening in the world today, and what it means for Australia, in a compassionate and accessible way.
Margaret Hallock is a long time US union educator, feminist and political researcher. She lives in Oregon and has been a friend and ally of Senator Barbara Pocock's for decades - as they have shared their perspectives, enthusiasm, alarm, despair and hope.
