Join us in Kingston to collect signatures on a petition to have the Armenian, Assyrian and Greek genocides recognised in the ACT Curriculum

Between 1915 and 1923, the Ottoman Empire committed a genocide against Armenian, Assyrian and Greek communities, killing an estimated two million people and forcibly displacing hundreds of thousands more. Despite the historical significance of this event, occurring in the broader context of World War I, and inspiring the original definition of genocide, and despite its modern relevance in a festering climate of genocide denial, this history is not being taught in ACT schools.

The Greens are supporting a petition led by affected communities calling for this oversight to be righted, and for these genocides to be included in our curriculum. To that end, we will be collecting signatures outside the Old Bus Depot Markets on the corner of Wentworth Avenue and Gosse Street on Sunday 12 April from 10 am to 12 midday, and we would love if you could come along to help us out. No experience is needed, but we do appreciate if you can do some quick background research beforehand. We hope to see you there!
