Canberrans are active, switched on and know what their community needs. For some communities, they sadly cannot cut through the noise and often feel the brunt of poor policy decisions. This stems from a fundamental power imbalance; government ultimately decides when to listen to the community and whose voice to listen to. Too often, it’s a small group of people with loud voices or political connections who have the biggest say.
But when people from all walks come together to discuss their vision, great things emerge for the whole community. The decisions we make now will shape the future of our society.
Facilitator Mark Spain from the Canberra Alliance for Participatory Democracy will lead a Q&A discussion with a guest panel about how we can build more cohesive and inclusive neighbourhoods. On the panel is:
- Emma Davidson, ACT Greens Member for Murrumbidgee
- Zakia Patel, Regional Managing Director at Multicultural Hub Canberra and Regional NSW
- Hugh Mackay, psychologist, social researcher and author
- Tim Hollo, Executive Director of the Green Institute and author of Living Democracy
Refreshments will be provided. Registration is free, but encouraged.
